“I served on the Board for Friendship House/Catherine's Place during the the time we were building the new home.  Mary was hired as our lead architect, so we worked closely together over a span of about two years.  I was always impressed with Mary's professionalism, her excellent communication, innovative ideas, and her ability to work well within the limitations of a not-for-profit organization.  The end result was a beautiful example of her creative abilities!”

CYR Architecture and Construction was contracted to assist Women’s 12-Step Recovery, Inc. (now ReDiscover MH) to create a new facility to expand the services offered at Friendship House: treatment for women with alcoholism and drug addiction.  Catherine's Place was designed to provide residency and treatment to women and their children, including women and children with disabilities.  This 10,700 square foot accessible home has all the safety features of a commercial building and accommodates up to 10 families, including up to 13 children in residence with their mothers, while avoiding an institutional feel.  The project received unanimous support from the Kansas City Landmarks Commission in our application for a Certificate of Appropriateness and is an asset to historic Hyde Park.
